I'll be trying this one over the weekend. Hopefully this one will work. I'll keep everyone posted as to the results.

I just performed this Hack. Now I'm a bit more advanced with skill level, but still it should be easy if you follow directions.

A few things you'll want to do before you start, and this may sound trivial but its important.

#1 - Have a clean work surface, make sure you have room to work and plenty of light.
#2 - Make sure you have a small Phillips (+) screw driver.
#3 - Make sure you have a small regular (-) screw driver, or something you can pry with. A little knife would work but please be careful.
#4 - MOST IMPORTANT, make sure you have a good wire snipper. IT has to have a very precise small tip so you can cut in a very confined area. If you can not find one elsewhere, you can get one from Radio Shack (Click Here)
#5 - Make sure you get the right Radio Shack radio. Its a 20-125. Comes ina grey box, and the radio is silver.

The upgrade took me all of 8-10 minutes. But plan to take about 30 minutes. Before you cut, make sure you have the right wire. It you're not certain, close it up, regroup and ask a friend for help.

Another important thing as I found out, when you break apart the radio, the little metal pin that holds the strap in will want to fall out. Make sure to watch that pin so you do not lose it, and remember to put it back in place when you put it all back togeher.

The Ghost Box works excellent. Of course while I'm near the computer the FM is the only band which useful because of the EMI/EMF interference from the electronics. But when you're in an investigation with most tech turned off, you should be able to use the AM or multiple SW (short wave) bands.

Good luck! and Happy Hunting!

I've created a photo-album which chronicles the conversion process. Read it several times before attempting this and make sure you have all the tools ready.

The album (Album ID: 55) does not exist
