I've purchased one of these in the past, and they are wonderful. A bit pricey at almost $50.00 a pop, but if you're doing investigations in an enclosed or outdoor area and you want more than just the tiny little light that your camcorder provides, this is the answer.

The OT294 unit is 12V but comes with a 110 volt transformer for use with a wall outlet. But you can just as easy get a small 12 volt NiCd battery and connect it to that instead. It draws about 1A at 12V. (18 Watt)

They boast that it illuminates 60 meters (196 feet) but in reality it really is more like 90-100 feet usably.
But in a room it makes for a very bright light. If you put a defuser over it (lamp shade or something that will spread the light) it can really light up one or more rooms with 850nm infrared source.
