Can someone explain exactly how the premise of a Ghost Box is supposed to work? I know the basics, but I'd like a full on explanation if at all possible.

Personally I think the answer is somewhere in the middle. Knowing the electronics behind how the radio works, I think its a bit to complex for a person (living or dead) to simply manipulate in any way that it can make sense. I think the answer is more in that the spirit manipulates the listeners to pick out the relevant pieces. But that's just my theory.

I guess I just have issues with a device that is picking up radio waves as it scans and emits words. I'm not an expert, I don't know the exact science behind it. I'm just speaking in terms of plausible deniability. When BHPI goes on an investigation, we try to find any way of debunking or explaining reported phenomenon. We don't want any doubt whatsoever left in what we present clients. This device just sounds too suspect for me. Now, when I say suspect, it sounds mean, but I don't mean it like that. I'm just saying that it doesn't seem like a useable tool from my point of view. To each their own, and if it can be shown to be scientifically sound, then I can definitely be swayed. You know, I'm right there with you. I have a whole host of issues with the device. And as far as hard evidence goes, you're correct it would not be useful for that. Its does not carry a provable evidence chain.

BUT, the raw fact of the matter is that there are things which work whether there is an explainable reason we can find or not. When I first built this device I was certain it would lead to nothing but randomness or perhaps a whole host of matrixing. But out of the 2 serious times I've used it, it did seam to lead to more results than were simply attributable to randomness.

Science? Maybe not, at least until we can fully understand life, the universe, and everything.
Useless? I don't think so, though I may not fully understand it, its too reproducible to be coincidence.

I to have a shack hack and aside from stopping once in awhile it works great! I have removed the FM antenna on my shack hack and it still works! Although the 12-587 insides have changed since I made my hack there is still one more model that works well the 20-125 is still hackable, it is a bit more pricey than the 12-587 was.

Hey Cle let me know what it say on the device and in the instructions. Like my Olvious X it says, For Entertainment Purposes Only. Just want to see if the device has the same info on it. Since it is used on Ghost Adventures.
